Dear friends and neighbors,
I am proud to introduce myself as a Candidate for the Florida House of Representatives, District 18. In the past, I have served my country and my state and now I am eager to step into another facet of public service. I am the most qualified candidate for this office and I have the experience, the desire and the strength to lead. In late April, I was mobilized as a member of the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General's Corps to serve a six-month tour of duty in Baghdad, Iraq. While this deployment is certain to make this race a greater challenge for me, it absolutely does not affect my place in the race for the Florida House of Representatives.
I am running for the State Legislature because I believe that I am the best person to serve the people of Northeast Florida. I have a lifetime of commitment and experience in federal, state and local public service - but this election is not about my resume, it's about leading Northeast Florida in the 21st century. This election is about the future, not the past. It's about leadership, not salesmanship.
As a proud conservative Republican, I stand for lower taxes and less government spending. I support increased public safety for our citizens and the restructuring of our Juvenile Justice system, including how we deal with juvenile offenders. We, as citizens, need to work fervently to protect all of our natural resources, especially the St. Johns River, from increased incursion by Central and South Florida, and I will be one to champion that issue.
Running for office is a daunting task that requires broad support from all across the district. With a Primary Election ahead, our focus must be on fundraising and building a network of supporters. Today, I humbly come to you asking for support. I know this campaign will not be easy; it never was going to be easy and now, while I am in Iraq, it will be all that much more difficult. No other way but with your continued help and support will I be able to reach this goal.
It is my sincere hope that I will be able to gain your trust and, more importantly, earn your vote while I am not here in the district, serving our country overseas. With certainty, I can say to you that when I return from Iraq I will be ready and able to represent the citizens of Northeast Florida. God bless you all and keep you safe. Thanks for the time, money, and support that you are going to be giving in the months ahead. To VICTORY in August!
